I posted the link to this deslorelin forum in a Facebook Group apparently some people on there using it for chemical neutering. disturbingly, a few people in the group seem to be "anti" deslorelin. it appears that a few people implanted their ferrets, their ferrets died shortly after, then they blame the implant. and in the process they are scaring others into NOT wanting to use deslo. those people are ignoring the hundreds upon hundreds of ferret owners who have been using the implant without a problem.

I know and thanks for the heads up. I am on that group just to monitor it. The only thing that I warn people about when implanting an older adrenal ferret is the implants get the adrenal under control but then if Insulinoma had been present the blood sugar will drop so needs to be monitored. The adrenal disease evidently elevates blood sugar as a side affect. The first ones that were reported also seem to have had an implant with a bigger needle etc which makes me think they were the wrong ones.

I told many many people, the 'sensationalism' that that group creates only 'confuses' people, Igave an opinion, very pro Implant, they kicked me out, then someone re-added me LOL. but I say nothing, it is 'constant fishing' to 'discredit the Implant, Pepteck has been effectively 'chemically castrating' large mammals since 1993, Bengal Tigers in the Toronto Zoo have not gone into season since, All my six were Implanted at six to twelve months of age. No Ill effects, I've seen first hand, the effects not of my own ferrets, but full blown AD in others, and the Implant saved their lives. Nice to stay in a positive environment, with like minded peeps

Yeah I'm not buying into it. I think it was either a coincidence, or the ferret had an underlying condition, or it was the wrong drug.
Patrick, how long have your kids been implanted?

With any drug including the implant you need to stay vigilant as things can happen like bad batches or underlying causes. I researched this implant for a year before I decided to try it, even went to the Phoenix Symposium and asked the vets what they thought on it and of course heard Dr Wagners' talk. So far things have gone good. Yes I've lost a few older ferrets but they had other problems. I just wish it would become available in the US soon.

Pooper is coming up to third Implant, Bella and Anouk coming up to second, Zuri and Piper on first. No reactions, no side affects, But, remeber, they have all had the Implant, before developing and maturing, so, Its nipped in the bud, before they (AD Tumours) could form. These are all Marshall ferrets, neutered at four to five weeks, so the danger at three, is very real, but, not now, this is where 'preventative' works, so I can 'concentrate'on other predisposed issues, They all eat Freeze dried Raw, so hopefully, Insulinoma will be kept at bay as well

Ireally really 'highly' doub't, other than the 'Rampant Pandemonium' the facebook group has cause, a ferret 'passes' OH....GOTTA BE THE IMPLANT....OR...THIS ANIMAL WENT RENAL....OH...GOTTA BE THE IMPLANT!!.....I can't even 'observe' in there because It makes me crazy and want to tell them where to go, so, instead, I make 'note' of all the non believers, and make sure, if they cross my path, 'Iwill 'remember' If I have cancer, and contract Pneumonia, then I die, was, it the Cancer? or the Pneumonia? whereas I would have 'survived' if it was 'just' Pneumonia? I think you know where i'm going with this. What 'bad' mix is it?, a women from a rescue, that 'recieves ' many 'older' ferrets and 'decides' she wants to Implant? The recipe for disaster has already taken hold, so, you don't need to be a rocket Scientist to figure it out, Yes, BG levels spiked' after the Implant, the ferret was 'already' insulinomic and you gave them an Implant? In my opinion, just really stupid, reckless, and a recipe for disaster, makes me mental when I think about it. Every last Kit, out the door, should have an Implant. 'Right out of the gate', like mine.Umless you live in Bulgaria or somewheres else, you probaly have a Marshall ferret, so, thats it, its over, and the way people feed these animals? AD and Insulinoma will happen, you cannot get away, you cannot hide, it will come for them, Marshall Farms has 'seen to it', four to five weeks neuterer? they want to sell you another ferret? I would never ever own a ferret without one. So, I'm really sad, all my preaching will probably go Unheeded, now that this group descrediting the Implant out of bordom? has been created. Those Poor North American ferrets.Marshall Farms are like 'Evil Drug Lords', they 'own' the North American market, and have reduced these animals to disposible pets, and New ferret peeps ,are recieving Mixed' signals, risking every single Mustelid out there. So, an I a hard core, die hard advocate of the Implant? You betcha, sad, for ferrets, to go to the bridge, with 'preventable' adrenal Cancers.

I will admit- I've made the decision not to implant one of my adrenal ferrets. But NOT because of the implant itself. He's been on lupron for 2yrs, and is now on pred which appears to be working for him. We are assuming his adrenal has become malignant because of this. And until just WHAT underlying condition appears to react with the des(if actually any), I won't implant him. His cage mate, however, has an appt with a vet who will be ordering the des in.

I was added to that group because people know I've used Desi. You know...I CAN'T stand that kind of drama I'm VERY glad to be on this board. I've used Desi 5 times now, each for Adrenal. I knew some of those ferrets had other things going on. AE: Blood work and Xrays. So I never blamed the Desi. I'm looking forward to using it as a chemical castration this next year
